About Habitat For Humanity-Wild Rivers
Non profit, ecumenical housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and homelessness. WRHFH works with people in need by building homes.
How it works: We advertise for a partner family and select a family with an income that is 30 to 50 percent of the county median income, living in substandard housing. We have a clear bias toward helping families with children. The family must be able to put in at least 300 hours of "sweat equity" in the build of their home. We work with businesses to get donated or discounted materials whenever possible. We call for volunteers, and with a very capable construction manager taking the lead, a home is built. Ownership of the home is given to the family in the form of a no-interest mortgage, with payments that are usually under $400 per month.
