Prior to opening Dorsey Tire Company Inc. in 1979, William "Billy" Dorsey Sr. worked for Flint Coat Trucking as a laborer pulling tarps and helping in the maintenance shop of the trucking company his father owned. One day, a customer asked Billy if he had any interest in working on his equipment and Billy, liking the idea of business ownership, decided to leave his father's trucking company to open Realistic Tire. At the same time, Billy's dad, Glynn Dorsey, decided he wanted to venture out of the Trucking Industry and opened his own tire company called B&D Tire. Billy and his dad would compete for 2 years until one day, Billy decided to buy out B&D Tire from his father and go into business together and they opened Dorsey Tire Company Inc. which stands today.
