Born in Los Angeles and growing up in inner city Dallas, Ken and his family moved over 18 times with the same city before graduating high school. Surrounded by drugs and alcohol, extreme poverty and a real sense of hopelessness, athletics became Ken's escape.
He earned a B.S. in education in 1984. After graduation, a knee injury prevented him from pursuing his dream of becoming a pro-football player. Ken served in the military and went on to serve as a police officer in Tulsa for
