In the business since 1986, Torrella has worked at Michigan State University, The Wichita State University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and University of Michigan. He has served as Chief Concert Technician at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and as a Concert & Artist Technician for Steinway & Sons through Hammell Music Company (now Steinway Piano Gallery of Detroit). Torrella received formal training at Michigan State University under Prof. Owen Jorgensen and at the Steinway & Sons Piano Factory, Long Island, NY.
A classically trained pianist (B.M. in Piano Performance, 1984, Univ of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music), Torrella occasionally gives solo recitals in salon settings and in private homes, and collaborates with a variety of instumentalists.
