About Hill-Stead Museum
Art Museum and Historic House
Designed by pioneering female architect Theodate Pope, Hill-Stead Museum is a National Historic Landmark set on 152 hilltop acres. The 1901 Colonial Revival-style house and estate is a stop on the Connecticut Art Trail and a member of Connecticut's Historic Gardens. Period rooms, boasting collections including original furnishings, paintings by Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, James M. Whistler and Mary Cassatt, as well as numerous works on paper and Japanese woodblock prints, are open for tours Tuesday through Sunday. Grounds, graced with miles of stone walls, blazed woodland trails and a ca. 1920 Sunken Garden, are open and free to the public daily 7:30 am-5:30 pm. For tour and program information, browse hillstead.org or call 860.677.4787.
