About Oakland Community Art Project
We offer free art classes to children 4 to 18 living in East Oakland.
The Oakland Community Art Project is a community-base art organization dedicated to the creative empowerment of young people in Oakland through participation in visual arts. Our philosophy is founded on an asset-based developmental perspective. By focusing on the positive elements in their environment, we strive to scaffold their education by using art as a vehicle to foster and promote cognitive, social, physical, emotional and moral development. Moreover, we strive to provide a space in which young people can build their own unique community, centered around their time spent in the art studio thereby allowing them first hand knowledge of the construct of community.
