Fresh Steps EAP (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy) provides mental health services using a team approach, to include the licensed mental health professional, equine professional, and the horses. The role of the human team is to provide both physical AND emotional safety. Issues or feelings surface quickly using this model. If avoided, clients may be led to believe their feelings should be avoided, or are bad. Anyone suffering from an emotional disturbance will benefit from interventions with a professional therapist. Powerful metaphors develop as a client's approach to problems in general will be mirrored in their approach with the horse.
