Carpet is only installed right by a power stretcher the first time. If someone comes to your door to install carpet ask if they use a power stretcher not just a knee kicker. If they do not have one send them packing. What most installers will not tell you is that if it is installed with just a knee kicker the mill will not guarantee the warranty on the carpet which can cause you problems later down the road.
