The Live Scan technology replaces the process of recording an individual's fingerprint patterns through a rolling process using ink. Rolled ink fingerprints would become smudged through handling and mailing, causing prints to become illegible slowing the process of criminal background clearances to a period of WEEKS and MONTHS. Additionally, the state agency will coordinate other processing, including forwarding the fingerprints to the FBI.
If you have been instructed to submit fingerprint cards for a criminal background check, you may be able to submit your fingerprints via livescan. This will speed the background process considerably. The typical process time for card submissions is 6-8 weeks, but electronic submission gets results within 7 days.
